The concept of Human Security has been extended in meaning in the recent times, in particular after the release of UNDPs Human Development Reports from 1994-2009. Food security assures access to quality food with sufficient materials to all people at all times and in all places. The threats to food security are hunger, malnutrition, rising prices of commodities of food, inadequate calorie and protein intake, insufficient food production, inadequate facilities and infrastructure and the inadequate storing facilities and food deprivation. The mechanism of action has three pronged strategy of tackling with food insecurity. The Federal, State and Local governments have initiated different projects to enhance food production through irrigation, budgetary allocation, introducing international farming practices and encouragement and motivation of farmers to increase production. Nigeria’s program for Food Security (NPFS) is working in collaboration with FAO (United Nation’s Food and Agricultural Organization) .NGOs in Nigeria are carrying on projects to end food insecurity.
