Environmental studies indicate that carbon dioxide constitutes 64 percent of total greenhouse gases and is the primary factor behind global warming and climate change. The effort to reduce greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere is a significant concern across various industries, including the oil and gas sector. The process of carbon dioxide storage in oil and gas reservoirs offers a suitable solution for managing the release of this gas and preventing it from entering the atmosphere. However, due to the declining efficiency of the country s oil wells in recent years, maintaining these reservoirs and injecting various types of gases into them has become essential. In this study, continuous carbon dioxide injection was performed using Eclipse 300 software to optimize carbon dioxide storage and recover the produced oil in one of Iran s oil reservoirs. The genetic algorithm was also employed for optimization purposes. The most important question addressed in this project is how the injection well locations, their positions, and the length of their network affect the rate of carbon dioxide injection and removal. Additionally, the impact of these factors and the problem s length on gas storage and oil production increase were identified. Considering a grid size of 7x24, the maximum amount of oil was extracted, and after several runs, it was determined that the optimal positions for networks, which have a higher oil production efficiency, are on the first layer, with a distance of approximately 77 feet between them.
