Carbon steel is widely used in the petroleum industry. Corrosion of this steel is commonly observed due to various factors. The use of corrosion inhibitors makes it possible to effectively control this process. In this work, the corrosion rate (CR) and inhibition efficiency (IE) of benzotriazole were determined by the weight loss method at various inhibitor dosage levels and test times at a constant temperature of 30 °C in 1 molar HCl. Experimental data was used based on response surface methodology (RSM) and new models were developed to predict CR and IE. The data predicted by the developed models were in good agreement with the experimental data. At the same time, both CR and IE increased with increasing test time. In addition, the optimization of the corrosion process was completed. The results showed that the optimal values for the inhibitor dosage and test time are 150 ppm and 35 hours. Under these conditions, the lowest CR and highest IE were 1.425 mm/y and 85.471%.
