The photocatalytic activity of titania (TiO2) nanoparticles was improved using nitrogen as a dopant and urea as a nitrogen source. It was validated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), aiming to apply (in the future) in the polymeric structure of PVDF/MWCNT ultrafiltration membranes. Congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB), and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were selected as model membrane foulants to perform photocatalytic degradation studies using nitrogen-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2), where a maximum of 46% degradation in pH=12 was achieved for MB. Also, 37% and 7% degradation have resulted in neutral pH for CR and BSA, respectively.
