With the advent of smart devices, the concept of communication between things through internet has grown rapidly. Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of objects that are capable of sharing information without any user interferences. IoT technologies can provide a unique computing platform to measure, monitor, and control the energy consumption of home appliances on a large scale. This can be helpful to reduce energy consumption costs, air circulation management, instantaneous temperature and humidity regulation and online activity control of all electrical appliances. In this project, the whole day is divided into three time periods and a different tariff rate is defined for section. as well as managing the controllable equipment, the intensity of illumination with the help of natural ambient light is adjusted to optimize energy consumption. The results show that by using home energy management system (HEMS) with intelligent lighting control based on IOT, energy consumption in peak hours can be reduced 19% and 13% in summer and winter, respectively. This causes significantly reduction in customer’s bill.
