By utilizing Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), digital records can be securely updated in real-time without a need for centralized control or verification. Centralized network management results in elevated risks of specific attack types, traffic bottlenecks, and poor scalability. Appropriate selection of consensus methods and Sharding are common techniques that are used to address the scalability challenge in these systems. However, reliability becomes a significant challenge in shard-based protocols which inherently rely on partitioning all of the nodes into groups. This article focuses on the key components in the process of configuring sharding committees. We will provide a detailed discussion of the challenges and issues related to the concept of node partitioning in shard-based protocols and compare within some of the well-known protocols in this regard.
