DETERMINING TEACHERS PERSEPTION’S ABOUT MULTICULTURALIZM AND MULTICULTURAL EDUCATĠON: (DĠYARNAKIR’S EXAMPLE)
Abstract :
The purpuse of this study is to examine the percepcions of teachers about multicutural education in Diyarbakır. A descriptive survey model was used to collect the data by developing a multucultural education perception scale. The study was conducted by surveying 426 elementary school, social science studies and Turkish language teachers in the province of Diyarbakır. Cronbach Alpha was used to measure the reliability of the instrument. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 79. After Factor Analysis, four main factors were determined. For the analysis, means were interpreted and the relationship between these factors and demographic variables was tested by using Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests. The results of the study show that teachers have quite positive views about multiculturalism, multicultural education, and bilingual education. Also, there are strong relationships between some demographic variables and four main factors.
