AN ASESSEMNT ON POLYSEMIC LEXEMES

Dictionaries are not only the most important reference books of a language, but also the first place where an unknown word is looked up. One of the fundamental point in preparing a dictionary is that to identify and define the lexemes accurately. Definitions should be done from abstract to concrete and from denotation to connotation. While achieving these, one of the criterion is the frequency of usage. In other respect, it is understood that there are separated meanings in a lexeme in Turkish general dictionaries. The topic of this study is to illustrate the forms, which are separated in terms of meaning, on different lexemes. The data base of the study is 11th edition of TDKTürkçe Sözlük ve Misalli Büyük Türkçe Sözlük.
