Investigation of Learning Styles according to Some Variables: Prospective Science Teachers
Abstract :
In this study, it is aimed to investigate how the prospective science teachers change and develop their learning styles within the years by means of variables using cross-sectional research method related to the developmental research approach. The sample of the research consists of prospective teachers attending to the science department of education faculty of Amasya University in the 2012-2013 academic year. In this research, ‘Gregorc Learning Style Inventory’ and ‘Personal Information Form’ were used to determine the learning styles. For the analyses of the data, chi-square (X2), independent sample t-test and ANOVA were used whose frequency and percentage results were calculated. It is figure out that the prospective teachers are at mostly Concrete Random (%41) and at least Concrete Sequence (%12.2) learning style. It is also seen that there is no meaningful relation between the gender, grade level, parents’ education level and academic success and their learning styles. However, it appears a meaningful relation at statistical level between learning styles and the education status of the prospective teachers attending to the normal and evening class. At the end of the research, some recommendations were made to the authorities about the data obtained.
