Determination of Elementary Science Teachers’ Views About Critical Thinking
Abstract :
Critical thinking, which is one of the higher-order thinking skills, allows for understanding different perspectives, questioning, exploration, individual and social interactions. At the same time, it should be within the scope of educational system as one of the goals of curriculum. One of the precondition of nurturing individuals who has critical thinking skills and tendencies having properties such as detachment, open minded and interrogator is nurturing and employment of educators who has critical thinking skills and tendencies in education community. In this context, the aim of this study is to determine the science teacher’s views about critical thinking. Research sample consists of 11science teachers who 7 of them have bachelor’s degree ( different professional seniority) and 4 of them are postgraduate students. Context analysis is used for data analysis and analyzing of in-depth interviews are made by researchers. The results of the study revealed that science teachers’ views towards critical thinking are ill-informed and teachers who have postgraduate degree know more about critical thinking. Some recommendations were made along with the obtained results
