مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Some Thoughts of Artvın Communıty about Dams That have been buılt/have been Buıldıng ın Artvın

Abstract :

Water power that is described as white coal plays a role to meet the needproduction of electric and energy. Especially in developing countries, huge dams and hydroelectric power plants that are started building rapidly beginning from the middle of twentieth century take over social and economical improvement and production of energy. However, there are various natural and human problems because of increasing dam number far away rational plans and maintainability. In Turkey, Çoruh Basin Energy Investment Projects (ÇHEYP) which are the second largest projects after GAP (Southern Anatolia Project) have similar problems.15 dams are going to be built in Çoruh Basin which has the third place in point of hydroelectric energy potential in Turkey. In this study, it is dealt with Deriner, Borçka, Muratlı, Yusufeli and Artvin dams that make up a part of ÇHEYP and are totally in Artvin’s boundary. Muratlı and Borçka dams are already completed, but Deriner Dam is still continuing building. Artvin and Yusufeli dams are not started building yet.The main aim of this study is to learn the thoughts of Artvin community about these dams in Artvin. It is used the qualitative research method in the study. The sample group has 90 people who are selected randomly from Artvin Merkez, Borçka and Yusufeli districts and Muratlı Village and data is gained by an interview that is consisted from a half configured five questions. Thematic codes are created by using descriptive analysis method in order to the gain data. Beside of the main theme, lower themes are created by making content analyze. In conclusion, although the community has positive thoughts about dam building in general, they also have some negative thoughts because of the difficulties and discomforts during dam building in their neighborhood.
