Abstract :
Group work is one of the major competencies that is aimed to be provided in the counselor education. In Turkey, this competency has been gained through various courses in the guidance and counseling bachelor programs. In order to provide this competence to counselor candidates in Ege University guidance and counseling bachelor program, a group leadership model was developed including both the group practice and the supervision process. The initial aim of the study was to describe this model in detail. The other aim of the study was to obtain counselor candidates opinions regarding the training. For this purpose, opinions of the counselor candidates who were trained with this model were obtained with a structured form during 2008-2009 academic years. According to the qualitative results, three themes were emerged; roles, supervision and suggestions. In the present study, the findings were discussed under the light of literature and suggestions for group leadership training were provided.
