Abstract :
In this study, effects of dietary L-carnitine supplementation on hepatic, vısceral lipogenesis and growth performance of gilthead sea bream was investigated. Study was carried out 120 days. In this experimentation 3 groups (one of it is control) with 2 parallel was created and 6 net cages in 5x5x5m dimension was used. 5000 fishes with 198±1,5 g initial weight was put into each cages. Control group fishes was fed with normal commercial feeds. Other 2 experimentation group fishes was fed with feeds with L-carnitine supplemented respectively, 0,8 and 1,6 lt/100 kg feed. At the end of the experiment weight changes was examined and maximum final weight was determined in group G2 with 263,27±1,8 g. When weight gain examined, maximum weigth gain was determined in group G2 with 64,92±1,8 g. There was no differences between total weight of groups (p 0,05). Mortality was determined in group G0 with 416. Mimimum mortality was determined in group G2 with 372. There was variations on FCR values between groups (p 0,05). Minimum FCR was determined in group G2 with 1,79±0,05. Minimum HSI and VSI were determined in group G2 respectively, 2,5±0,29 and 8,3±0,4. This study showed that dietary L-carnitine supplementation enhances growth performance and decreases mortality. HSI and VSI was determined minimum values in group G2. It supports that dietary L-carnitine supplementation helps decreasing of hepatic and visceral lipogenesis. This idea was supported with liver examination.
