  • Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this study is to compare the perinatal outcomes and placental findings of patients with and without ablatio placentae.Materials and Methods: 1104 patients who gave birth in between April 2010-June 2011 at the Ege University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology were evaluated retrospectively in this study and 11 ablatio placentae cases were compared with the other patients. Results: Preeclampsia, diabetes mellitus type I, history of ablatio placentae in the previous pregnancy are significantly higher in the ablatio placenta group. In ablatio group, birth weight, time of delivery and the APGAR scores at the first and the fifth minute were significantly lower, where the need for the neonatal intensive care unit was significantly higher. Placental weight is significantly lower in the ablatio group. The length of umbilical cord, knot, stricture, cord entanglement and the incidence of placenta previa and adhesion defects do not differ in the two groups. There is no significant difference for umbilical cord hyper/hypocoiling between the two groups. Conclusion: The incidence of isolated placental pathologies does not differ in the patients with ablatio placentae or the other groups.
