Pre-Service Information Technology Teachers Perceptions about Using Scratch Tool in Teaching Programming

The purpose of this study was to analyze the pre-service IT (Information Technology) teachers’ perceptions about using scratch in teaching programming. The sample of this study consisted of 159 pre-service IT teachers who attended the course supported with Scratch programming in the 2013-2014 Spring and Fall semesters. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data in this study. Two online questionnaires (Personal Information Questionnaire, Students’ Perceptions about Scratch Programming Tool Questionnaire) were used to gather data on quantitative variables and focus group interviews were conducted to learn pre-service IT teachers’ perceptions in a detailed way. The results indicated that pre-service IT teachers` perceptions about programming with Scratch related with motivation, usefulness and ease of use were generally positive.
