  • Abstract
In marble quarries, diamond wire cutting and chain saw machines are used in the process of creating blocks in several ways. Three different cutting techniques were used in the studied quarry. The first one is called Method A which is the standard diamond wire cutting method. In this method; bottom, side and rear cuttings are carried out by diamond wires passing through drilled holes perpendicular to each other. Secondly, the rear is cut with chain saw machine with the length of 7.40m while the bottom and side cuttings are achieved through diamond wires. This is called Method B. The third method, Method C, operates by cutting the bottom with chain saw machine with the length of 3.40m. The side and rear are cut with diamond wire in this method. All three methods operated in the quarry are evaluated with the data taken for approximately 4 months. During this period, 159.60 m drilling and 3357.55 m² cutting have been done in order to achieve the volume increase of 3848.68 m³. During the operations; the usage of machines, drilling / cutting speed, supplies consumption and labour force are observed and this data is evaluated in terms of production method and type of machinery. As a result of this research, the fastest method was discovered as Method B while the fastest cutting machine was determined as chain saw machine with the length of 7.40m. Moreover; it is found that in order to increase efficiency, areas that are cut must be as large as it can get.
