The Application of Similarity Theory for Investigation of One Dimensional Heat Conductivity Equation in Soil

Abstract
Instant heating and cooling of soil surface has an important effect on soil micro climate and soil processes. In this research, one dimensional heat conductivity equation was investigated in case of instant heating and cooling soil surface conditions. Similarity theory was applied for solution of the equation. The solution was expressed in a simple way with using error, complementary error functions and Fourier number. In semi-infinite media (soil), the relationship between θ dimensionless temperature and F_oy Fourier numbers (for small and large values of Fourier numbers) was shown. The prediction of changes in soil temperature along soil profile using the solution has been also shown on a numerical example.
