Abstract :
The studies that determine socio-economic development level of regions, provinces and districts in our country are conducted by the State Planning Organization (DPT) occasionally. The last study, which determines development ranking of regions and provinces, was carried out in 2003. Despite the announcement that similar researches will be carried out periodically every five years, such a study hasn’t been published for now to the best of our knowledge. The main purpose of this study is to contribute to filling this gap. In line with this purpose, in this study, socio-economic development ranking of the provinces is determined by using up-todate data and the results obtained from this study with those of DPT to show the differences after year 2003. The other aim of this study is to determine provincial groups have equivalent level of development. According to the results obtained in the study, ranking in 2010, according to ranking in 2003 sort order of 36 provinces have increased, sort order of 30 provinces have decreased and sort order of 15 provinces have remained unchanged. In addition, we determine ten provincial groups have equivalent level of development.
