THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY TO THE TURKEY’S ECONOMIC GROWTH
Abstract :
In this study for the period of 1964-2014, the causality links between the gross domestic product and the number of tourist arrivals/tourism earnings in Turkey have been analyzed by using the Bayer-Hanck cointegration, unrestricted VAR, Dolado-Lütkepohl VAR methods, impulse-response functions and variance decomposition analysis. Empirical results show that there is no cointegration between tourism sector and economic growth in the long run, however, there is a positive uni-directional causality running from the tourism sector to the GDP in the short run.
