Research on Alisir Nevai s Poems Found Between XV-XIX Beyaz Collections in Taskent and Paris Libraries
Abstract :
Poetical anthologies, bayâz, are one of the sources for the study of the complex problem of Persian-Chaghatây literary bilingualism in pre-modern Central Asia. These sources contain up to several hundred verses by many different classical and local poets writing in both languages, compiled in one volume. Since each bayâz manuscript is virtually unique by its contents, it can be considered as a “photography” of literary tastes, practices, and notions of literary criticism in a given place, milieu, and period of time. The analysis of bayâz volumes copied in one single region of Central Asia but dating from different periods, as well as the study of volumes originating from different areas of Central Asia but copied in the same period of time, can bring forward much information on the evolution of literary forms and styles. More importantly, it also helps to assess the respective weight of the Persian and Chaghatây languages in the literary practices of Central Asia. We have limited our investigation to the period going from the 15th century that is the beginning of the Timurid dynasty to the 18th century when the Chaghatây language began to play a really important part in the literary milieu of the Central Asian courts.
