An Analysis on the Effects of Time Spent Watching Television and Types of the TV Programs on the Children’s Level of Self-Concept
Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to determine if time spent watching television, and types of the television programs watched have effects on the level of self-concept of the fourth and fifth grade primary school children, or not. Research conducted on the sample of 331 children who participated in the research voluntarily and attends on three arbitrarily chosen primary schools that are located in Kırşehir city center. In order to determine the demographic characteristics, time spent watching television and type of the television program watched “Children Data Form” and in order to determine children’s self-concept level “Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale” were used. At the end of the research, it has been concluded that there is not any effect of time spent watching television and type of the television program watched on children’s level of self-concept (p 0,005).
