Examining The Usage Of Problem-Solving Strategies By The Eighth Grade Gifted And Non-Gifted Students
Abstract :
Although a great deal of research has been carried out on problem-solving and problem-solving strategies, few studies have been conducted on the strategies used by the gifted and non-gifted students while solving problems. Therefore, this study aims to examine the strategies used for solving mathematical problems by the eighth grade gifted and non-gifted primary school students. We have conducted a case study with 6 gifted and 6 non-gifted students. Clinical interview method and problems have been used as data collection tools. As a result, it has been seen that the gifted students use more strategy do while solving a problem. In addition, when the both groups are taken together, it has been found out that the accounting for all possibilities strategy has been used most and the guessing-testing strategy has been never used.
