Removing the Misconceptions Met in Root Numbers by Concept Cartoons

Abstract
This study has been made in order to determine the misconceptions about root numbers at 8th grade in Primary School and to compare concept cartoons with traditional teaching in removing the misconceptions. Working group consists of the students attending to 8th grade in central district of Ağrı province in 2011-2012 academic years. (N=53) students took part in the study. This study is been an experimental studies, while concept cartoons were used in experiment group in order to remove misconceptions, traditional teaching method was used in control group. As a result of the study, it has been seen that concept cartoons and traditional teaching are effective in removing misconceptions. While traditional teaching caused a change positively only in comparing only root numbers, concept cartoons created positive effect in all times. In addition to this, it has been determined that concept cartoons are more effective in comparing concept cartoons and traditional teaching.
