Abstract :
Objective: Our aim is to evaluate rectal prolapse cases retrospectively to emphasize the laparoscopic aproach. Materials and Methods: Between 2003 and 2009 16 patients (8 man-8 woman) with rectal prolapse were operated at Fırat University Medical Faculty Hospital. Patients age, race, symtoms, surgical technics, morbidity and mortality were recorded. The degrees of the rectal prolapse were clasified according to Altemeier’s metod. The meshes used were polypropylene. Results: Mean age was 55.7 (19-80) years. Patients underwent Ripstein procedure (n=3), rectopexy (n=3),Notaras procedure(n=10, 4 was laparoscopic). Mean follow up time was 28.6 (3-68) months. The five patiens who had incontinance 3 were improved and 2 had dificulties to control gas. One recurrence (mucosal prolapse) was seen in a patient whom rectopexy was performed. Conclusion: The etiology and the treatment of rectal prolapse are not clear yet. Notaras procedure can be prefered laparoscopicly.
