Abstract :
Congenital anomalies in ruminants are widely reported by various researchers around the world. Intestinal atresia is defined as the atresia of various segments of intestine in calves. Intestinal atresia can be seen in anus and/or rectum, jejunum, colon, and ileum. Atresia ani and atresia coli are most commonly seen form of atresia. In the present study, it was aimed to compare the cardiac indicators and hematological parameters of calves with intestinal atresia to those of healthy calves The study cases were 36 calves accepted to our clinic evaluated for hematology and biochemistry results of intestinal atresias. Hematological and biochemical analyzes of 10 healthy calves at 1-10 days old were performed as a control group. Haematological examinations were made by veterinary blood counter. Cardiac troponin I (cTn-I), myocardial creatin kinase (CK- MB) and myoglobin levels were determined by commercial kits as using in the obtained serum samples. Hematologic and biochemical parameters and statistical differences of healthy and intestinal atresi calves were presented. mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDWc), neutrophil (NEU), percentage of neutrophils (NEU%) values was significantly higher compared the control group, but percentage of leucosyte (LY%) value was significantly lower compared to control group. There is a statistically insignificant increase in white blood cells (WBC), cTn-I and CK-MB levels in calves with intestinal atresia. In conclusion, changes were observed in hematological and cardiac parameters in calves with atresia coli. Also, according to results of this study, it was concluded that co-evaluation of hematologic and cardiac parameters was found to be crucial for prognosis in intestinal atresias.
