Abstract
An extensive infection was detected in the wooden structural system as well as in the historical furniture of Beylerbeyi Palace predominantly by Anobium punctatum (De Geer, 1774) (Coleoptera: Anobiidae), and to lesser degree by Lyctus brunneus (Stephens, 1830) (Coleoptera: Lyctidae) and Hylotrupes bajulus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae). Disenfecting the damage occured in the wooden materials in Beylerbeyi Palace, was the first fumigation in Turkey using sulfuryl fluoride. For the building fumigation, sulfuryl fluoride was circulated for three days through controlled-volume fumigation. Effectiveness of the application was evaluated by using heavily infected wooden blocks and test organisms. A mortality rate of 100% was achieved in the fumigation treatment used in the eradication of the wood boring insects in Beylerbeyi Palace.
