Abstract :
Objective: To analyse the demographic characteristics of the women whose first pregnancy is ectopic. Methods: In this retrospective case control study, a total of 30 women whose first pregnancy was ectopic (Group A) were compared to the women whose first pregnancy was miscarriage (Group B, n=30) and whose first pregnancy resulted in uncomplicated term delivery (Group C, n=34). The comparison was made with respect to the age, body mass index, history of the previous pelvic operation, drug usage, duration of the marriage, duration of the contraception, smoking and the economic status. Results: The ectopic group (Group A) was statistically different from the other two groups (Group B and Group C) with respect to the duration of the marriage and the history of the previous pelvic operation (p=0.004 and p=0.0001; respectively). Related to the types of the pelvic operations in the ectopic group, appendectomy was the leading one (% 42). Conclusion: Ectopic pregnancy, not being in the first line diagnosis among the women who experience their first pregnancy, may have a higher frequency in the patients with a lesser duration of marriage and a history of pelvic operation.
