Abstract :

Propaganda posters are of a significant role in telling the theme of war and peace. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the views of students regarding the handling of war and peace theme at propaganda posters. Document analysis system was used in the study. The views of students over how propaganda posters depict the theme of war and peace were taken. In order to make out the logic at evaluating the themes of war and peace at propaganda posters, students were asked to define war and peace. At the evaluation of the replies given to two open-ended questions, a coding system developed by Hakvoort was used. The responses by the students were evaluated through content analysis method. It was found in the study that the definitions of war and peace by the students through poster selections showed a variety and difference rather that a pile. The meanings given by the students to the posters showed that they were affected by the wide range at defining war and peace. The students chose some of the posters as the best ones to depict both war and peace. In addition, a considerable number of students defined the concept of peace with war.
