Prospective Turkish Teachers’ Attitudes and Opinions towards the Use of Proverbs

Abstract
In this study, it is aimed at determining the ability of using proverbs, attitudes and views of the teacher candidates who are studying in the department of the Turkish teaching at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. For this purpose, a survey which is composed of 17 questions has been applied to 355 teacher candidates in spring semester of the academic year of 2010-11. The datas have been analyzed with descriptive statistical techniques according to the programme of SPSS 15.0. There are several results of the study. Most of the teacher candidates do not use the proverbs frequently in their daily lifes and that usage is generally displayed in a circle of friends. On the other hand, the teacher candidates are aware of the positive effect of using proverbs on expressing themselves. It has been also observed that they meet the proverbs in the conversations of friends or family, however, they do not use the proverbs in the classroom.
