Effect of Dictionary Use Tendency in Word Gaining of High School Students
Abstract :
Words are the shaped forms of thoughts. Improving vocabulary has a very important place in language development. In this study, the effect of the dictionary use of high school students in word gaining in Turkish language and literature course was examined. The study was modeled in scanning pattern. The study was composed by benefiting from the data obtained from a total of 281 students 176 of which was female and 105 of which was male who were studying during fall term of 2012-2013 academic year. The data that were collected through the survey were interpreted statistically with independent sample t test and one-factor variance analysis (ANOVA). As a conclusion, it was determined that students perceive dictionaries as boring, tough books and they do not benefit from dictionaries sufficiently.
