Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the emotional intelligence levels of those couples engaged to marry in terms of variables such as their ages, sex, educational levels, occupations and marriage styles and to find out if there is a significant relationship between their emotional intelligence levels. 46 engaged couples who applied to Gaziantep Şehitkamil Municipality for marriage constitute the sample of this study. “Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale” was applied to those couples who volunteered to take part in the study. The result of this study shows that individual‟s emotional intelligence level varies according to their educational levels, meaning that the more educated they are the higher emotional intelligence level they have. The results also show that there is a significant difference between the intelligence levels of graduates of middle school and university. The findings however show that there is no significant difference between emotional intelligence levels and sex, ages, occupations and marriage styles parameters. Finally, the findings show that there is no significant correlation between the emotional intelligence levels of those couples engaged to marry.
