Abstract :
In this study we aimed to present the findings of confocal microscopy, ultrasonic biomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography in lipid keratopathy which is a rare corneal disease. A 54-year-old male patient with no history of eye disease or systemic disorder was admitted to our clinic with symptom of decreased vision in his right eye. His visual acuity was 0.7 in the right eye and 1.0 in the left. Biomicroscopy revealed mild corneal edema, increased corneal thickness, ring shaped intrastromal fat accumulation, and penetration of feeding vessels in his right eye. Confocal microscopy supported these findings and additionally revealed perivascular inflammatory cell infiltration and destruction of corneal lamellas and keratocytes. Ultrasonic biomicroscopic examination revealed corneal posterior bulging in Descemet membrane with destruction by infiltration of the hyperecogenic substance. Regions of stromal lipid accumulation, vascular infiltration and posterior bulging were also seen in sections of corneal optical coherence tomography. As also observed in this case presented, confocal microscopy, ultrasonic biomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography are beneficial for in vivo investigation of the corneal lipid degeneration.
