Abstract :
As the concepts religion, mysticism, and metaphysics are formed around the subject matter “God” or “Allah,” they are related with each other. Also as religious elements that mysticism stems from are closely related with art, these concepts and art can be considered together. In the poetry of Yahya Kemal, one the exceptional poets brought up by the Turkish literature, it is remarkable that the three concepts are present. Yahya Kemal contemplates the subject matter “God” or “Allah,” from which each of the three concepts takes its roots, with respect to the attributes associated with Him and in the context of religion and metaphysics, and in terms of the concept “mysticism” employs Sufism (tasavvuf), which is thought to be Islamic mysticism, in his poems. Rendering life short and death comely, the poet uses reflections of Turkish-Islamic culture in his poems, while he approaches to metaphysics and the western philosophical tradition, bringing death and the concept “bad” together. According to him, soul is eternal and flow of time is subjective. He concieves “Allah” from the concept “presence” and death from the concept “absence.” Besides, he refers to the subject matters heart (gönül), wisdom (hikmet), fate/ firmament (felek). Although his views on dream and imagination focus on motherland and Istanbul, they seem to tend to metaphysics.
