Abstract :
Sipahsalars, as an important administrative title in the Samanids, had played an effective role in the management of Khorasan and its surroundings. The persons that had the title of Sipashalar also played an active part in international relations. Besides, the Sipahsalars assumed duties as Commander in Chief had the right to assign tax officials. The title of Khorasan Sipashalar sometimes descended from father to son. It is known that the Turks had a military background also were brought into this office (Sipashalar). In due course, the title of Sipashalar lost its importance because of the domination of Gaznavid State in the region.
