The Determination of Performance at the First and Second Crop Productions in Maize Grain Cultivation

Abstract
The Corn is a plant whose cultivation area is broad, but production is insufficient in Turkey. The problem can be solved only by second crop productions. Therefore, the study was carried out in the farm of Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Agriculture as a first and second crop product in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The materials of the field experiment consist of 31G98 and 32K61. The total number of days in vegetative and generative stages and Growing Degree Days (GDD) value were calculated. Grain yield, yield components, agricultural characteristics and quality parameters were determined in this experiment. At the end of the study, it is determined that corn completes a vegetation period in a shorter duration at first crop production than a second production. This decrease become due to shorter generative stage. Plant growth and development periods were affected by temperature, related with GDD values and climate data. Means of grain yield yield components, agricultural and quality characteristics of first crop product were higher than those of second crop product. It is found that differences are present among grain yield, the number of grain per ear and oil content of product.
