Title Of Article :
A preliminary study on ensilability characteristics and yield and other related traits of elephant grass (Miscanthus x giganteus) under Mediterranean climatic conditions
Abstract :
This study was conducted in Bornova experimental fields of Field Crops Dept. of Agriculture Faculty of Ege Univ. in 2008 and 2009, in order to determine ensilability, herbage yield and other related traits of elephant grass (Miscanthus x giganteus) representing a very new crop material for our country. Plant height, leaf ratio, herbage and dry matter yield, crude protein content, silage pH traits were tested. Two years average results indicated 404 cm of plant height, 30% of leaf ratio, 116180 kg.ha^-1 of fresh herbage yield, 19660 kg.ha^-1 of DM yield, 5.6% of crude protein content and 3.79 of silage pH.
