Abstract :
Food safety systems which table olive firms had such as in most food firms would be able to cause important differentiations within many production and processing strategies and also marketing practices. This research was carried out in order to determine differences within some important marketing practices among the table olive firms implementing and non-implementing food safety system/s located in Aydın region which has an important olive production potential. In this framework, depth interviews were performed by owners of 59 table olive firms which constituted of all active table olive firms in the region during April-June, 2010. In result of this study, while 21 firms would have one and/or more food safety system, 38 firms that rest of the firms have no certification systems. The survey questions were prepared based on 5 point Likert scale; the answers were taken by the firm owners in order to learn their perceptions on this issue. Because of the fact that the data would not show normal distribution, Mann Whitney U test was engaged to determine differences in some marketing practices between the firms implementing and non-implementing food safety systems. As a result, differences between those firms on the parameters such as to be preferred national and international markets, food safety systems which have the firms, joining the fairs, and product quality would be determined statistically significant. In addition, it would be defined that there was statistically difference between the firm groups on constitution the own distribution networks in international markets, in particular.
