Abstract :
the objective of study was to evaluate the damage and economic injury level (EIL) of the Zyginidia pullula (Boherman, 1845) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) which is an important pest on second crop corn. Experiments were conducted both in the laboratories of Bornova Plant Protection Research Institute and in the cages at experimental field of Ege University in 2011 and 2013. Additional field studies to were carried out at 2-4 leaf stages of plants in Aydın (Merkez, Cine, Koçarlı, Soke), Izmir (Bergama, Menemen) and Manisa (Central, Akhisar, Salihli, Saruhanli) provinces between 2011-2014 years. Experiments were conducted with corn plants planted in the cages according to randomized block design were infested 10, 30 and 100 adults/per plant with pest from mass rearing. Counting of adults and evaluation of damage symptoms were done weekly and regression analysis applied to the average of grain yields obtained. Based on the results, economic injury level of pest was determined as 13 individuals per plant. According to results of field studies, population denstiy of the pest exceeded EIL in Çine, Kocarlı, Bergama, Menemen and Saruhanli districts. Based on the findings, it was determined that the pest had the potential to cause epidemics in corn production areas. It has also been observed that wild Graminae species, especially Johnson grass, interfered with the host and caused the increase of the density of the pest.
