Title Of Article :
A Critical Analysis on the Sociology of Science Discussions in Turkey
Abstract :
Although certain scientific discussions have attracted considerable public attention in Turkey, the main assumptions of the sociology of science have been little known. Sociology of science in the Turkish context is often perceived as an artifact to be exploited in discussions regarding the alleged conflict between science and religion. Moreover, some other sociologists make use of main theories in sociology of science to rule out arguments in favor of Western superiority in science. Finally, some Turkish sociologists of science, fascinated by the relativist views in sociology of science, use the arguments in the field to challenge their arch enemy –i.e. positivism. By analyzing the main actors in the field and their positions, this article aims to provide a brief insight into the sociology of science discussions in Turkey.
