Abstract
The Banking Sector Restructuring Program was put into force in May 2001 in order to permanently resolve the problems of Turkish banking sector which was deeply affected by economic crises. Profitability of the banking sector has improved as a result of the reforms made within the framework of the Restructuring Program. In this study, profitability performance of Turkish banking sector for the period of 2002-2009 is analyzed by ratio analysis. Findings of the study indicate that profitability of the banking sector increased in general in the analysis period; however it decreased in 2008 due to the global crisis.
