Abstract :
Huseyin Efendi, an eminent historiographer and scholar-encyclopaedist of the XVII. century, has found name under the pseudonym “Hezâr-fenn” and in a way that suits this pseudonym wrote important works in different branches of science each of which requires separate expertise. After Katip Çelebi, Hezârfen Hüseyin Efendi is the second Ottoman author benefiting from Western resources. Hezârfen Hüseyin Efendi, whose life is not known in advance, has works in various subjects as medical science, history, mysticism, language, geography, state organization each of which is a separate branch of science. In this study, the life and works of Hezârfen Hüseyin Efendi are examined from various sources.
