Estimation of River Suspended Sediment with Wavelet-GEP Model

Abstract
In the study, the models were developed by combining wavelet transform and gene expression programming (GEP) methods to estimate suspended sediment for the Kızılırmak River. First, the GEP models were developed by using river flow measurements for estimating sediment. Then, the flow data were decomposed into sub-series by wavelet transform and the effective sub-series on flow data were determined. The D-GEP models were developed by using the effective sub-series as inputs. When comparing the sediment measurements with the results of the developed models, it was shown that the D-GEP models had better performance than GEP model.
