EFFECT OF PATIENT ANXIETY PRIOR TO TREATMENT ON PATIENT’S GLANCE TO TREATMENT
Abstract :
Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess anxiety prior to dental treatment of patients who refer to dental clinics, and it’s effect to their opinions about following treatment. Material and Method: A questionary consisted of 6 questions was applied on totally 1000 patients, 250 from each department who refered to Prosthodonty, Periodontology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Diseases and Treatments Departments of Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry.Anxiety level of patients on prior to treatment was asked face to face ona writen questionarie to the group consisted of men and women between 20-70 years old 10 minutes before treatment. It was evaluated whether there is a relation between the anxiety level and importance of their natural teeth, and their opinions about following treatment or not by using ANOVA and Scheffé statistical analysis. Results: Survey findings indicated that before the treatment patients don’t have anxiety too much in generally. It was determined that surgical application causes the most anxiety, however prosthodontic procedures cause no anxiety except in a few patient. Conclusion: It was concluded anxiety that acquired from painful or unsuccesfully treatment experiance in child/adulthood is created in different levels in different dental treatments.
