Abstract :
Objective: The most commonly measurement to determine the vertical position of the mandible in cephalometric analysis is GoGn/SN angle. Gonial angle is an alternative to this measurement. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between GoGn/SN, GoMe/FH and Gonial angles which are indicative factors of the mandibular rotation. Material and Method: The study material included 69 cases who were completed his/her growth period, have not any craniofacial deformity. 24 cases were skeletal Class I (ANB angle between 0°-4°), 20 cases were skeletal Class II (ANB angle 4°) and 25 cases were skeletal Class III (ANB angle 0°). GoGn/SN, GoMe/FH and Gonial angle measurements were considered on pretreatment lateral cephalometric radiographs. Analysis of Variance, Duncan’s test, Ki-Square and Z tests were used for the statistical evalaution of the data obtained and the correlation coefficients were calculated. Results: The correlation coefficients are high in Class I, II and III groups. In Class I group GoGn/SN, GoMe/FH and Gonial angles support each other maximum. In Class II group Gonial angle and GoMe/FH findings are similar while; findings of three angles do not support each other in Class III group. The findings of three angles are similar in hyperdivergent facial pattern while less similar in subjects with normal and hypodivergent pattern. Conclusion: Findings of three angles which used for vertical facial classification reinforce one another incrementally from Class III group to Class I group. Findings of three angles are similar in individuals having hyperdivergent facial pattern.
