Abstract :
INTRODUCTION: A micro-invasive approach in the treatment of white spot lesions called ‘resin infiltration technique’ has become popular in recent years. The technique is based on infiltration into enamel’s demineralized lesion with a low-viscosity, light curing resin called infiltrant. In this technique, after removal of the surface layer, the lesion is desiccated and a resin infiltrant is applied. The resin penetrates into the lesion’s microporosities and is subsequently hardened. The lesion loses its whitish appearance and looks similar to the sound enamel. This technique also prevents the progression of the lesion. CASE REPORT: This clinical case report has presented a new approach used to treat white spot lesions that occurred after fixed orthodontic treatment and the effectiveness of this new approach after 3 years of follow-up. An immediate improvement of the esthetic appearance was achieved and remained stable through the observation period. CONCLUSION: Resin infiltration technique could be alternative to other esthetic restorative techniques in the treatment of white spot lesions.
