Title Of Article :
Relationship Between The Time Dependent Zeta Potential Of Pure C3S Phase and Its Setting Behavior
Abstract :
In this work, the zeta potential measurements (ZP) of pure clinker phase, C3S (3CaO.2SiO2), of ordinary portland cement (OPC) depending on time were carried out under the real conditions. That is, the used water/cement (w/c) ratio is 0.5 in this study and it is the same with the ratios used in the practical applications. The obtained ZP curves were discussed under the light of the time dependent calcium (Ca^+2) concentration released into water from the solid phase, time dependent suspension pH, vicat test, and heat of hydratation by Microcalorimeter test results. As a result, the relationship between the time dependent ZP of C3S and its setting behavior, especially considering beginning and ending of setting times, is not possible under the real w/c ratios. This is because the ZP measurement of the C3S particle is impossible after a certain time due to solidifying. However, there is weak relation between the heat of hydratation and time-dependent ZP data.
