Determination of the Diagonal Tensile Strength of Curved Laminated Wood
Abstract :
In this study, it has been aimed to determination the diagonal tensile strength on the shaped veneerlaminated elements produced by vacuum membrane press. In accordance with this aim, wood veneers (1,5 mm thickness) from oriental beech, oak and Scotch pine were pressed by vacuum membrane press with PVAc dispersion D4 adhesive and laminated veneer samples consisting of 13 layers were prepared. The samples were tested under static loads and the diagonal tensile strengths of members were calculated. As a result, at diagonal tensile test the best resistance values obtained at beech samples that had the best bonding quality, oak and pine samples gave lower strength values that had relatively low bonding quality. The differences between the oak and pine were not statistically significant.
