Self-Qualification and Attitudes Towards Processing of Science and Technology Course by Drama Method of the Prospective Science Teachers
Abstract :
Science and technology course, helping improving cognitive aspects and enhancing the creativity of the individuals, has been taken part of elementary school education as a basic course. Drama method is a learning technique which enhances creativity, supporting to development of the individuals in the science and technology courses. In this survey is aimed to determination of the attitudes, self-qualification, and opinions towards processing of science and technology courses by drama method. This research was carried out by a hundred and ninety prospective teachers who are studying at 3th and 4th grade levels of Erciyes University Faculty of Education, Department of Science Education in the of spring semester of 2010 and 2011. A questionnaire which was developed by the authors was 5-point Likert-type scale and its Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient is 0.91. It includes 10 items regarding prospective teachers’ self-qualification towards processing of science and technology courses by drama method and 17 items regarding attitudes towards processing of science and technology courses by drama method. The data have been analyzed by using SPSS 17.0 software. It was found that prospective teachers’ self-qualification scores (X ̅=3.13) and mean attitude scores (X ̅=3.63) for processing of science and technology courses by drama method. It was also examined whether self-qualification and attitude scores of the prospective teachers’ varied with respect to gender, grade and trained in drama variables. It was found that prospective teachers’ self-qualification scores varied with respect to grade level and trained in drama (p 0.05) in favor of 4th grade and girls, respectively. It was also found out there was statistically significant difference in favor of girls and trained in drama prospective teachers’ for attitudes towards processing of science and technology courses by drama method.
