Abstract :
Construction of structures on unsuitable soil layers, the resent earthquakes and expected earthquakes hazard in the coming years have exposed engineering problems such as estimating the stress-strain and dynamic strength effects of soil layers under cycling loading, determining changes that may occur in shear strength and to implement these effects in the design and construction of structures. Soil dynamic has an important place to predict and evaluate behavior indicated by soil layers before under cyclic loading as earthquakes, wave loads, the basic vibrations of the machine. The purpose of this research is to study the behaviour of Uşak Kaolin subjected to cyclic loads based on dynamic shear and dynamic triaxial tests. In experimental methods, the effects of dynamic cyclic loading frequency and amplitude on dynamic properties of cohesive soils were prioritized and with obtaining experimental data were examined shear modulus, damping ratio, shear strain and axial length difference. Shear strain induced by cyclic loading has been dependent on the cyclic stress ratio and frequency. Shear modulus has increased by increasing cyclic stress ratio and frequency. Shear modulus decreased and damping ratios has increased with increased shear straining.
