Socio-economic Structure of Fishermen Eastern Black Sea
Abstract :
In this research, organizational and socio-economic structure of fishermen was evaluated in the Eastern Black Sea Region. This study was conducted with the participation of fishers as members of the fisheries cooperatives in several locations on the Eastern Black Sea coast. In order to achieve this aim, the interview was carried out with 388 fishermen in Artvin, Trabzon, Giresun, Ordu and Sinop provinces. In consequence of an interview, social and economic status, existing problems were detected and solution suggestions were presented. Moreover, the technical properties of the fishing vessels operated in these regions were determined. As a result of the survey, it was observed that there are similarities with the problems and socio-economic state of fishermen of the other cities and locations on the size of vessels, number of crews, lack of insufficient social security and income appreciation from fisheries and dissimilarities on their social status as education, age distribution and the reason to be involved in fisheries. According to the negotiations, existing problems were stated as insufficient infrastructure of fishery organizations, failures to find against overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries, lack of infrastructures in fishing ports and financial support to maintain their life in the fisheries sector.
